A reworked terrace in Sydney’s eastern suburbs. The idea was to capture the tranquility of Balinese indoor/outdoor residential design combined with the openness of loft living .
The eastern influence is evident in the spatial transitions between inside and outside. Downstairs, three-leaf, interlocking steel doors retract into side cavities. A wide, long bench extends from the informal lounge area, out to a pontoon over a slatelined pool. Upstairs the main bedroom opens onto a balcony overlooking the back garden. The house was divided into two pavilions joined by a staircase with a glazed roof that opens the centre of the house with light.
